DIMAPUR, AUGUST 17 (MExN): Police arrested twelve persons in connection with the violent upheaval on the night of August 16 at the electricity billing office located at PWD colony. The arrested individuals, who were part of the angry mob that ransacked and destroyed property belonging to the power billing office, were however released on Friday after signing PR bonds. The turmoil which began around 11:00 pm was brought under control only at around 1:00 pm. But not before property, including documents and computers were destroyed by the emotionally charged residents angry over the government’s failure to supply electricity. The horde of residents even threatened to take siege of the SLDC, Nagarjan and the Burma Camp sub-station but was prevented from proceeding by the police. Residents were seen milling around the billing office, which was guarded by IRB personnel and the West Police even today.
More crowds gather at Metha colony sub-station
In another similar development, hundreds of people gathered at the Metha colony sub-station Friday night, in a likely replay of Thursday night’s drama. The events which are unfolding, comes in the midst of the state Power Minister yet to issue a public statement, let alone explaining the reasons over the current energy crisis in Dimapur and Peren.
