Doyang Reservoir has been contributing to the total fish production in Nagaland by about 300 MT and above per annum and has proved immense potential for sustainable fish production. The department of fisheries has been ranching the reservoir annually in order to increase the total fish production which in turn benefits the surrounding villages comprising more than 400 fishermen households.

Earlier, the department has already stocked 4 lakhs fingerlings as Ist phase stocking on June 4 this year for the year 2010-11. The second phase of fingerling stocking was successfully conducted by the fisheries department on June 24 this year where about 4 lakh fingerlings were released into the reservoir. During 2010-11, the stocking of fingerlings at Doyang Reservoir has been duly implemented by the department of fisheries, under the aegis of National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the department requested the surrounding villages of the reservoir to prohibit fishing closed season and avoid use of explosives, poisons, chemical etc. in the reservoir as per Rule -9, 14 and 15 of Nagaland Fisheries Regulation (Rules), 2008. Moreover, the fish farmers have been informed to use prescribed mesh size of fishing nets and fishing crafts to avoid catch of under- sized fishes, juveniles, fish dry, spawn etc. as per Rule- 5 & 8 of Nagaland Fisheries Regulation (Rules), 2008. This was stated by Zenohol Angami, joint director of fisheries.
