DPC, NPF, NSF pay tribute to Kohima Press Club

KOHIMA, JANUARY 20 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF), the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and the Dimapur Press Club (DPC) have issued separate messages marking the 25th anniversary of the Kohima Press Club (KPC), highlighting its role in journalism and the media fraternity in Nagaland.

In its message, the NPF stated that the silver jubilee “marks a quarter-century of commitment to journalistic ethics, press freedom, and responsible reporting in Nagaland.” It said the Kohima Press Club “has provided an important platform for media practitioners to engage, collaborate, and strengthen professional standards in pursuit of truth and public interest,” adding that “its efforts to uphold the role of the press as the Fourth Estate are noteworthy and appreciated.”

The party also said it “pays tribute to the pioneer members of the KPC who are no longer with us,” noting that “their foundational contributions and vision continue to inspire today’s journalists and will be remembered with respect.” Referring to the present media environment, the NPF said that “at a time of rapid technological change and rising misinformation, their adherence to ethical journalism remains vital for an informed society,” while commending “the dedication, professional commitment, and integrity of KPC members.” The message concluded with the NPF extending “best wishes for the continued progress, relevance, and success of the Kohima Press Club in the years ahead.” The message was issued by the Press Bureau of the Naga People’s Front from its Central Headquarters in Kohima.

In a separate press release, the Naga Students’ Federation stated that it extends “warm greetings and hearty congratulations to the Kohima Press Club on reaching the historic milestone occasion of the 25th Anniversary celebrated under the theme ‘Traversing 25 Years of Storytelling: Inspiring the Future’ on January 20, 2026.”

The NSF said that “over the past two and a half decades, the Kohima Press Club has played a pivotal role in strengthening journalism and upholding the principles of a free, responsible and vibrant press in the state,” adding that “from chronicling the socio-political journey of the region to giving voice to the aspirations and concerns of the people, KPC has remained steadfast in its commitment to truthful, ethical and impactful storytelling.”

Referring to the theme of the silver jubilee, the federation stated that it “reflects the Club’s remarkable journey, honouring its legacy of dedicated journalism while looking ahead to inspire the next generation of media professionals.” It added that “in an era of rapid technological change and evolving media landscapes, the Kohima Press Club’s continued emphasis on credibility, integrity and public service stands as a beacon for aspiring journalists.”

The NSF further stated that “this milestone is a testament to the collective efforts of past and present members, leadership, and supporters of the Kohima Press Club, whose dedication has ensured that journalism in the region continues to inform, educate, and empower society.” The message concluded with the federation extending “best wishes to the Kohima Press Club for continued success in its mission to uphold press freedom, nurture young talent and contribute meaningfully to democratic discourse in the years ahead.” The press release was signed by Mteiusuding, president, and Kenilo Kent, general secretary.

The Dimapur Press Club, in its message, stated that it “conveys its warm greetings to the Kohima Press Club on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee,” adding that “this milestone marks twenty-five years of faithful service to the media fraternity and to the public at large.” It said it extends “its best wishes to the office bearers, members, and all those associated with the Kohima Press Club on this meaningful occasion.”

The DPC stated that “over the years, the Kohima Press Club has provided a common platform for journalists to share ideas, uphold professional conduct, and stand for public interest,” and added that “its role in supporting responsible journalism and in creating space for dialogue has been valued by peers across Nagaland, including members of the Dimapur Press Club.”

Acknowledging leadership within the KPC, the Dimapur Press Club said it “acknowledges the efforts of past and present leaders of the Kohima Press Club who have guided the organisation with care and commitment,” adding that “their work has helped strengthen bonds within the media community and has encouraged mutual respect among journalists.”
