The Kiphire District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) on Friday addressed pertinent issues in the education sector and various development activities in the district.
Minister for Geology & Mining, Soil & Water Conservation, NSMDC LTD, V Kashiho Sangtam chaired the monthly meeting and called on the officers to provide accurate reports regarding developmental activities so that the correct information is given when RTI petitions there is no confusion.
He also asked the officers to keep him updated on any programmes and development activities that are implemented in the district.
Taking part in the discussion on the problems faced by Government Higher Secondary School Kiphire, the District Education Officer (DEO) informed the house that the school’s intake capacity is overshot and the school is forced to admit 70-80 students in classrooms that have sitting capacity of 45-50 students.
The DEO also stated that the school, at present, has only one English and Sociology teacher each for 150 students. He further said that the Science Stream is functioning with only one Botany and Zoology teacher and without Maths, Physics and Chemistry teachers.
In this connection, the Minister assured the Board that he would take up the matter with the competent authority for additional teaching faculty.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner and Vice-chairperson of the Board, Wati Aier appealed to the officers to give their best, no matter where they are posted.
He also clarified on the funding pattern under the Aspiration District Programme, and said that in other states, programmes such as skill development, training, etc., are mostly taken up but in the North East, civil works and construction are taken up as well.
The meeting also deliberated on the construction of log drum, construction of Primary Health Centre Sitimi, upgradation of Agape school (Arts), National helpline for senior citizens, Eastern Nagaland Sumi Students Union, Diasoso Tribal Society and as well as the COVID-19 Scenario in the district.
The board also welcomed new members, CMO, Tourist Officer and Fishery officer to the meeting.
Additionally, the DPDB acknowledged the highest scorer in the 2022 HSLC exam and the HSSLC fourth topper, wherein Minister Kashiho appreciated the parents for taking care of the children and making the district proud.
The NSRLM and ZPC gave presentations on their activities.
