Dr Andrew Ahoto wins award at World Stamp Championship

Dimapur, September 13 (MExN): Dr Andrew Ahoto Sema, an avid philatelist, was conferred with the Large Silver Award at the World Stamp Championship held in Jakarta, Indonesia from September 4-9.

The award was received in absentia on his behalf by Sahadeva Sahoo, Philately Commissioner of India, a press release informed. 

Dr Ahoto, had earlier won the Large Silver Award at the INPEX (National Stamp and Philatelic Exhibition) held at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai in December, 2019,  was only philatelist from Nagaland and the North-East region to have won Large Silver in such a mega international philatelic championship, it said. 

A Gold Patron of National Philately, he won the Large Silver Award from among 507 exhibitors from 61 countries across the globe, it added.

He was awarded for his open class philatelic exhibition entitled ‘World War-II Vignettes’ which provides a visual walkthrough of the World War-II by way of Philatelic and Open-Philatelic material. 

The goal of his exhibit was to introduce selected categories of Postal and Open-Philatelic memorabilia as well as tell the story of the war using interesting visual elements, the release said. 

Structured in chronological order, it progressed from the rise of Hitler’s Third Reich, onto the key invasions and conquests that caused an Allied Force to come to War, and then to the culmination with American and Japanese action, it informed.

Towards the end it also showcases some commemorative items that remember key events of the War at milestone dates, it added.

The World Stamp Championship, a world-class philatelic exhibition, was organised by by the Indonesia Philatelic Associations (IPA) under the patronage of the Federation Internationale de Philatelie (FIP).
