Dream Big, Work Hard: Governor urges Nagaland’s academic toppers

Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav felicitated the toppers, rank holders and recipients of various Governor's Awards in the HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2026 during an award ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, Kohima on June 17.

“The Governor's Award for Meritorious Students has been instituted not merely to confer awards, but to recognize and celebrate academic excellence among the youth of Nagaland,” Yadav said while addressing the award ceremony.

He said that this Governor's Award have been conceptualized to honours hard work, discipline, perseverance and dedication, while encouraging students to strive for greater achievements. “Through this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing talent, rewarding merit and inspiring future generations to contribute meaningfully to the progress of our State and nation,” he said.

Congratulated all the award recipients, he said, “Your firm resolve, courage, and relentless pursuit of excellence are truly praiseworthy and will remain the foundation of your future accomplishments.” He asserted, “Education is a powerful tool for progress, and your success reflects the determination and perseverance that lead to excellence.”

Yadav also told the toppers and recipients of various awards to uphold values such as integrity, humility, and service as they pursue higher studies and future careers. “Continue to dream big, work hard and use your talents for the greater good,” he said. May you continue to excel and bring pride to your families, your institutions, and the State of Nagaland and the entire Nation, he added.

‘Remain humble, work diligently’
Earlier, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education underscored the importance of education, hard work, humility and leadership in building a developed Nagaland and contributing towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Congratulating the top-performing students, he lauded their dedication and the support extended by parents and teachers. He described education as vital human capital for the state's development and expressed concern over school dropout rates. He encouraged students to remain humble, work diligently and prepare themselves to become future leaders who will contribute to the growth and prosperity of Nagaland and the nation.

Secretary, School Education Department and Chairman-in-Charge, Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, stated that the Governor's Awards have, over the years, played a significant role in promoting a culture of academic excellence in Nagaland by recognising and encouraging outstanding students. He also acknowledged the contributions of schools, teachers and parents towards the success of the students and expressed gratitude to Governor for his continued support to education and for personally felicitating the award recipients.

Strive to become worthy ambassadors of Nagaland
Delivering an inspirational address, Furhesie Nyuwi, NCS, congratulated the awardees and shared his personal journey on becoming an NCS officer. Recalling the challenges of pursuing education with limited facilities, he encouraged students to believe in themselves, work hard and dream beyond their circumstances. Emphasising that one's beginnings do not determine one's destination, he urged the awardees to pursue excellence with integrity, remain humble, trust the process and strive to become worthy ambassadors of Nagaland.

The Governor’s Awards featured Governor’s Awards to HSLC and HSSLC toppers, Governor’s Awards for achievers in MILs & Skill Education subjects, Government school students, Eastern Nagaland students, Governor’s Excellence award for Science Study and NBSE Awards to HSLC and HSSLC toppers.

The programme was compered by Vitsiisie Nagi while vote of thanks was proposed by Kevileno Angami, Commissioner & Secretary, School Education & SCERT.
