DRFCB detect fault in construction of Old Dhansiri suspension bridge

Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): The Dhansiri River Flood Control Board (DRFCB) has brought to notice of the authority concerned regarding the ongoing construction of suspension bridge at Old Dhansiri Bridge connecting Purana Bazaar and Urban Haat in Dimapur.

DRFCB, Vice Chairman/PRO, Hekuto Wotsa in a press release informed that the foundation pillar on Purana Bazaar side has been haphazardly built on loose soil since the workers initially dug an extra soil of 6 feet deep which was refilled with loose soil and pebbles with cemented topping. It added that owing to this the foundation base has been completely washed away, thus exposing the poor workmanship which will lead to another disaster like the 4th Mile Chathe River Bridge.

The DRFCB regularly inspects the construction site but finds that technical officers, departmental officers or contractor are almost absent and do not sincerely supervise the work, the Board said while adding that “the labourers work on their own half-baked knowledge ultimately resulting in negligence like this instant case.”

Therefore, the DRFCB urges the contractor concerned to immediately reconstruct the said foundation pillar without compromising quality to avoid another tragedy.
