DRSU Fresher’s Day: Students urged to stay focused

Dimapur, August 20 (MExN): The Dimapur Rengma Students' Union (DRSU) celebrated its Fresher’s Day on August 19 at Town Hall, Dimapur with Er. William Kath, Assistant Commissioner of Police, MT, Dimapur Police as the chief guest.

Er. William encouraged the students to work hard and achieve success, according to a press release. “In these crucial years, challenge your capabilities,” he urged, asking them to create happy memories and be responsible citizens.

Short speeches were delivered by the Vice President of Naga Students’ Federation, Boveio Poukai Duo, President of Rengma Students’ Union, RN David Magh and President of Tenyimei Students’ Union Dimapur (TSUD), Azo Wetsah.   Duo asserted Nagas should not be selfish and individualistic, but must have zeal to change the world starting with the development of our villages. He encouraged the Rengmas to remember the great Rengma warriors, not to allow anything to break the bond of brotherhood, to be more interactive so their sacrifices will be recognized by others, and also not to forget the Western Rengmas in Assam.

Meanwhile, Magh encouraged the freshers to learn from other Naga tribes, to move forward and be united. “Do not be focused on worldly materials but focus on your dream for the glory of God,” he stated. He also maintained that “if we don't know our language and culture, our identity will be lost.”   Wetsah advised the students to focus on the things to take care of and not to look elsewhere. He further invited the students to feel free and seek the help and support of TSUD.

The president of Rengma Public Organisation Dimapur, Hilo Semp exhorted the freshers on the importance of knowing who they are, to respect and love the rich culture and language.

He congratulated DRSU officials for the great improvement over the years and for taking the initiative of bringing together the Rengma students in Dimapur and beyond. “Your presence, involvement and participation should be physical and not only on social media,” he further stated, adding “Do not shelter behind others and make excuses, be brave and responsible, respect the sacrifices of other people for the Rengmas.”

Earlier, a special song was presented by the students of Margaret Shishak School of Music and a melodious musical piece was performed by Binto Semy. Speech on behalf of the freshers was delivered by Bwenye Kent.

The students’ union also felicitated students who secured 75% marks and above in the recently conducted HSLC & HSSLC examination 2017.
