DSO and DSC Wokha fete Wokha District Rifle Association

A felicitation programme for the Wokha District Rifle Association (WDRA) was held at Likya Colony on May 5, where the the District Sports Office (DSO) Wokha and the District Sports Council (DSC) presented a PCP Air Rifle to the Association for their achievements.

Speaking on the occasion, Youth Resource & Sports Officer and DSO in- Charge, WokhaLibemo Jami highlighted the history of WDRA and shared that in 2022, the Association participated in the 2nd Edition of the Nagaland Para Olympic Games, marking a significant milestone for the district. 

Despite encountering numerous challenges stemming from the lack of shooting facilities, the Association clinched 1 gold and 2 bronze medals, he informed, further commending the hard work of the Association in promoting the sport in the district. 

Jami also expressed appreciation to the Deputy Commissioner Wokha and DSC Chairman Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan for getting the PCP Air Rifle for the Association.

Additionally, he encouraged the WDRA to make the most of the provided equipment, particularly for promoting shooting among women and girls, encouraging greater their participation the field. 

Jamir also emphasised the dedication of the DSC Wokha to empowering women in sports, ensuring opportunities are available for all. 

Meanwhile, WDRA President T Renphyo Humtsoe, President conveyed appreciation to  the DC and the District Youth Resource Officer for their assistance in obtaining the equipment.

He also mentioned that the Association’s plans to search for talent by engaging with schools and villages, with a particular emphasis on encouraging female participation. 

He underscored the innate shooting prowess among the Nagas and expressed optimism that with the availability of the rifle, the association will hold regular practice sessions, aiming to cultivate more shooters in the future.
