Ductile Iron dealers warn of legal action against ‘vested interests’

Dimapur Jan 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Ductile Iron & Casting Dealers Union (NDICDU) has charged ‘some government department officials of harboring ulterior motives to deviate and undermine the issues of peoples interest’ as evident from the controversy generated over the Gravity Water Supply Project to Tuensang district and warned of legal action.

In this regard the union, citing the Dimapur sewerage Project too which has been sanctioned under the name ‘pollution Abatement of Rivers, Diphu and Dhansari’ it took strong exception that ‘vested interest’ were by-passing the union although authorized dealers of all major manufacturing companies of Ductile Iron Pipes are registered under NDICDU, stated LP Zelie, President and V Kintso General Secretary in a press statement. NDICDU warned that it would be forced to take legal action against the concerned department according to pertinent law adding that the union desires to procure DI pipes only from manufacturers having a minimum proven manufacturing experience of three years.

Making its stand that with a view to encourage local entrepreneurs in the field of trade and commerce, the bulk of which at present revolves around outsiders, the NDICDU stated that it was constituted under the Indian Trade Union Act 1926.

Maintaining that it focuses on sustainable infrastructure development especially in the usage of iron for implementation of essential projects like water supply, sewerage and drainage systems, the union expressed commonality with the view and decision of the Government which passed a circular in September 2003 whereby “all departments utilizing pipes for water supply and sanitation etc are advised to procure Ductile Iron Pipes from approved manufacturers and authorized dealers only in view of the superior quality of Ductile Iron Pipes and their longer life span.”

Affirming that the NDICDU functions to protect the interest of the Government and the people against manipulations of vested interests, it keeps check over prevalent rates and quality in adherence to the Director General Supply and Disposal (DGS &D) rate and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specification.
