Duped investors and agents submit memorandum, demand justice

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 23 (MExN): Agents and investors caught in the ‘Jeevan Suraksha’ investment scam are now demanding justice. The people aggrieved, calling themselves as ‘All North-East Jeevan Suraksha Branch Workers Association Guwahati: Assam (Dimapur unit)’ submitted a memorandum to the Dimapur district administration and the District and Sessions Judge on Friday, November 23.

The contents of the memorandum stated that the main business of the company known as Jeevan Suraksha Group of Companies (also known as Jeevan Suraksha Associates Marketing Pvt. Ltd.) was to collect money as recurring deposits from interested individuals or investors. For this purpose, several agents were also appointed in Dimapur. The investments from depositors after maturity (after a particular period of time or as agreed in advance) were returned with interest on the principal amount, the memorandum added.

“…the company was doing its business accordingly till the month of April 2012. However, from the month of May the head office or for that matter the board of Directors of the company has failed to do the payment to the customers and absconded after closing down its office and branches in Dimapur as well as in entire North East India.”

The memorandum stated that the total amount collected from Nagaland stands at Rs. 18, 45, 06 900, deposited by 8159 investors. After efforts to find the “Directors and managing staffs” failed, the aggrieved agents filed an FIR at East Police Station, Dimapur, the memorandum added.

It further stated that one manager identified as Uttam Acharjee of Jeevan Suruksha group of companies was arrested by the CID, Assam and have been brought to Dimapur for interrogation. It was also added that Uttam Acharjee, son of late Jotymoy Acharjee, was the general manager of Jeevan Suruksha Group of Companies and a resident of College Road, Lumding, Nagaon, Assam.  “It is our humble prayer before your high authority to look into the matter and not to grant bail to the accused person.”

Meanwhile, there are two contradictory versions with regard to the reported arrest of Acharjee. Dimapur police on Friday evening stated that the said accused is yet to be brought to Dimapur.
