Kohima, October 12 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya graced the celebration of Dussehra at Assam Rifles ground, Kohima on October 11. Dussehra, which celebrates the Hindu god Rama's victory over the demon king Ravana and the triumph of good over evil, was celebrated for the first time by all the Hindu community together in Kohima. Nearly 3,000 devotees gathered at Assam Rifles ground despite heavy rains to witness the burning of the embodiment of evil in Ravana, according to a press release received here. During the celebration, the Governor reiterated that the evil of dowry, caste system, terrorism, poverty, corruption should be discarded, the release stated. It was also pointed out that festivals are symbolic of strengthening unity and purity in the society. Earlier, the devotees chanted slogans of Jai Shri Ram as effigy of Ravana was burnt. All devotees in and around Kohima, in addition to the usual Durga Puja celebration, had come together and celebrated Dussehra with the burning of the effigy of Ravana at 6:00 pm. The Governor had also visited Gorgkha Singha Mandir Chandmari, Durgabari Mandir, Hindu Mandir PWD, Radha Krishna Mandir Phesama, Durga Puja Pandals Lirie colony, Old Ministers’ Hill and Post Office on the 7th and 8th day of Navaratri during the Puja period and offered prayers. During the visit, he delivered message on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, and Jan Dhan Yojna.
