Dimapur, October 12 (MExN): The Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang, Rongmei Council Nagaland (RCN) and Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) have mourned the demise of I Daniel Zeliang, President of Zeliangrongb Baudi (Nagaland). Late Daniel died after a brief illness on October 11.
He retired as the Assistant Development Commissioner (ADC) after 35 long years of service in the Government of Nagaland in 2021 and thereafter became the ZBN President.
In a condolence message, Deputy CM Zeliang remembered late Daniel as someone with a thorough knowledge about the Zeliangrong historical background and who stressed the importance for the Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei communities living together in unity.
He strongly professed the ideology and aspirations of former Zeliangrong leaders like Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu to bring Zeliangrong under one administrative umbrella, he said.
As ZBN President, late Daniel propagated the idea for reestablishment of a common platform like the Zeliangrong People’s Convention (ZPC) to come together and strive for a common cause of the people, he added.
In my association with him officially under Planning Department and his short stint as a public leader, I found him to be sincere and outspoken and always ready to selflessly serve the people, the Deputy CM further noted.
A huge vacuum has been created in his demise, yet we should take forward his objectives and aspirations he left behind for our people, he added.
In his message addressed to Inzule Zeliang, the wife late Daniel and family, Zeliang added: ““I along with my family members extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and all his near and dear ones. I pray that the Almighty God give strength and solace at this time of grief and sorrow.”
The RCN also expressed sadness over the demise and stated that late Daniel was a true and able leader of the Zeliangrong people.
He had contributed much more in his capacity to the progress of the ZBN and the untimely death of our leader would make it difficult to measure the impact he has had on many people’s lives, personally and professionally, the Council said.
It is a great loss for the Zeliangrong people in particular; the vacuum left by his death would be difficult to fill, it added.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family during this period of mourning. May the departed soul rest in peace,” conveyed a condolence note from the RCN General Secretary Kidongam Panmei.
The ZLSU also expressed shock over the untimely demise of late Daniel Zeliang and described him as a “tall and respected figure who has been tirelessly working for the welfare of our community.”
He was a man of integrity who sacrificed his entire life for the upliftment of his people and a dedicated leader who boldly stood for the unity of his people, the union stated.
In his death, the people of Peren district have lost a vibrant, true, and honest leader and has created an irreplaceable vacuum in our community, it added.
The ZLSU further conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of late Daniel.
“May the almighty God grant solace, peace, and wisdom in this time of darkest hour. You will remain within our hearts. May your soul rest in eternal peace,” it added.
