DYRS observes International Day of Yoga in Kohima

The Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland, on June 22 observed the 12th International Day of Yoga at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima under the theme “Yoga for healthy ageing.”

The programme witnessed participants from National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Bharat Scouts & Guides, students of Indira Gandhi Stadium Sports Academy Kohima and officials of the Youth Resources & Sports department.

Yoga instructor Lawrence led the Yoga session.

He said that this year’s theme “Yoga for healthy ageing” propagated how to stay fit by practicing Yoga, adding that Yoga keep body fit and healthy and keep mind, heart and soul peace.

It may be recalled that the International Day of Yoga celebrated on June 21 every year marks people's commitment to a healthy and holistic living.

This year marks the 12th International Day of Yoga under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, which emphasizes the importance of Yoga for all ages.

The United Nations 11 December 2014, proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131 to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing Yoga.
