Kohima, June 7: Minister for Work & Housing and Mechanical, Tokheho Yeptho today inaugurated the much awaited Dzu-u Baily Bridge, about 48 km away from the state capital.
Dedicating the bridge, the minister called upon the people to extend their unflinching co-operation to the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and DAN government so as to avail various developmental activities.
The minister also urged upon the villagers to make the best use of the facility and prosper along with the rest of the world.
“This bridge will serve the following villages and its adjoining villages- Botsa, Tuophema, Gariphema on the west and Kijumetouma, Dihoma and Chakhabama for improving their socio-economic life through sale of agricultural products, exploring the natural resources”, said Dr. Er. Vikuotuolie Angami, Phd, Chief Engineer PWD (R&B).
The route has a shorter distance of 20 km from Botsa on NH-61 to Chakhabama on NH-160, he added.
The funding pattern of this bridge is under the LIC negotiated loan by the Government of Nagaland.
The total estimated cost of the project including the cost of civil works, cost of super structures, launching, carriage of bridge materials to the site, cost of scaffolding etc, amounted to Rs. 1, 61, 10, 618. It is located at a distance of 22 km from NH-61 on Botsa side and 19 km from the NH-150 on Chakhabama side.
The project work was allotted to M/S Chabou and Co, Class –I Regd Contractors and the launching of the bridge components was carried out by reputed firm M/S Pioners Construction. The bridge components were supplied by the Garden Reach Ship Builders and Engineers Ltd, Calcutta.
The construction of the bridge was started on March 15, 2001 and completed on May 29, 2006.
MLAs Tarie and Jongshilemba also attended the inaugural function. The function was chaired by Zhaleo Rio, IAS, Additional Secretary, Work and Housing department. Kruzolie Zhale, president, NAPO also spoke on the occasion while Er. N. Chielie, Engineer-in-chief, PWD offered the vote of thanks.
