An e-waste collection bin has been set up at the Hornbill Festival site at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, by the SDG Coordination Centre under the Planning and Transformation Department, Government of Nagaland. The initiative aims to collect various types of electronic waste (e-waste), including items such as desktop and computer parts, CPUs, adapters, wires, speakers, headphones, light fittings, fans, CDs, DVDs, printers, scanners, as well as electronic kitchen appliances, medical devices, motors, typewriters, and more.

However, despite the bin being in place, no e-waste has been deposited at the collection point as of yet.

An official at the festival site explained that the e-waste collection is part of a broader initiative under the SDG Innovation Programme. “Currently, there are four sponsored projects being implemented under the SDG Innovation Programme, and one of these is the e-waste project, which is being managed by E-Circle, based in Chümoukedima,” the official said.

The SDG Coordination Centre (SDGCC) is working closely with E-Circle as an implementing partner, assisting in the collection of e-waste at the festival site. The official further explained that the Centre is also promoting awareness about the importance of responsible e-waste disposal. Once collected, the waste will be handed over to E-Circle for proper recycling and disposal.
