DIMAPUR, JULY 21 (MExN): The EAC Seithekema has directed removal of construction materials such as sand, stone chips, etc being dumped on the footpath along the Tenyiphe-1/7the Mile Model Village to Diphupar-A /Chekiye Village stretch of the four lane NH-29.
An order from the EAC also directed removal of wares such as vehicle tyres, fabricated windows, grills, gates, etc in front of the shops on the footpath. Footpaths have been constructed to allow pedestrians to safely walk along the highway without any obstruction and not meant to be used as dumping sites for stocking construction materials or as extensions of shops, it said.
Such obstructions on the footpath force pedestrians to walk on the carriageway putting themselves at risk of being hit by oncoming vehicles. These obstructions on the footpaths have seriously compromised public safety and have become a public nuisance punishable under Section 268 of the IPC and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984, the EAC informed. The order directed the removal of such materials within 15 days failing which they will be cleared from the footpaths and the cost will be borne by the owners.
