Aos are known as the pioneers among Nagas. Yes no doubt missionaries and education reached them first. Arguably Aos are the most advanced tribe among the Nagas. Giants like Mayangnokcha should be given due credit, a Changkian he was well educated and he chose to be an educationist. A stalwart he was, three times he was given high government posts (Once an Assistant Commissioner and the third time as SDO Civil) but he declined to give his time in educating his people. Such supreme sacrifices need to be kept in mind.
Among the Angamis, Lhoulienyü Suokhrie was the second Naga graduate. He also chose to be an educationist. Angamis owe him deeply despite his premature death.
Why I am citing these two people and telling you their stories is for a reason. Eastern Nagaland is lagging behind in education for so many reasons. My sincere request to educated Eastern Nagas and those who have resources is that, please make sacrifices for your people. Become educationists some of you, open up good private schools and colleges. When sacrifices, I mean time, money and physical. Why not open up good schools and colleges, pay good salaries to the teachers and lecturers. Many especially South Indians will be willing to teach when the salary package is good. Parents no matter how poor they are, they will slog it out to send their children to good schools. Instead of them sending their Children all the way to Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung. Let good education be available in your doorstep.
I have analysed the Southern Nagas (Manipur). They are also neglected by the Meiteis but efforts have been made by them no matter how difficult to provide quality education in their land. They have been far sighted enough to realize the importance of quality education. They deserve an applaud. Maos and Tangkhuls especially are producing IAS, IPS, etc...
In conclusion, to those educated Eastern Nagas who have a burden for their people. Make supreme sacrifices and be the next Mayangnokcha.
