ENPO, ENSF, DENSU demand action against officials involved in Tuensang gaffe

DIMAPUR, MAY 28 (MExN): The Easter Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) and the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) today demanded immediate disciplinary action against the officials involved in the mismanagement which led to 168 returnees being sent to Tuensang from Kohima before their test results were out on May 26. This was echoed by the Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) as well.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, the ENPO said that the people of Eastern Nagaland are outraged by the discrimination and mistreatment meted out to its people.

The ENPO demanded that action against the responsible officers be taken within three days, failing which “we shall take our own course of action.”

It also demanded that the State Government immediately send more medical doctors and experts to the four eastern districts of Tuensang, Mon, Longleng and Kiphire. Along with this, the ENPO called for sanction of required funds for the 4 districts in order to handle the COVID-19 crisis.

The ENSF also demanded immediate suspension of the officials involved in the Tuensang faux pas of May 26 as per relevant section of law for intentionally violating SOP rules and protocols.

It meanwhile asked that the State Government officially acknowledge the “negligence of Eastern Nagaland in all the developmental fronts since the inception of Nagaland State.”

“Eastern Nagaland has always been kept at the receiving end by all the successive governments and the present condition of medical facilities and equipments available at eastern jurisdiction are in deplorable condition,” it said.

It informed that the COVID-19 fund allocation “is unjust and unfair.” Therefore, it demanded that equal and manageable fund must be re-allocated to all the eastern districts at the earliest.

It then demanded immediate supply of equipment and professional manpower in the entire Easter Nagaland area to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

The federation further said that the “random dispatch of returnees from Kohima and Dimapur quarantine centres by the government” has put Eastern Nagaland “in a very dark and dangerous position.”

The ENSF also demanded that the government issue actionable orders and direct all its employees, particularly the Heads of Departments to report to their respective place of posting within 3 days.

“In the event of failure to respond positively by the Government, the federation will be compelled to take democratic steps,” it cautioned.
In an ultimatum to the Chief Minister, the DENSU also demanded that the officials in charge should be held accountable and immediate legal action be initiated against them for violation of guidelines, protocols and endangering the lives of the people.

The DENSU also demanded that those positive as well as suspected patients be shifted immediately to Dimapur or Kohima as there is no well-equipped medical facility in the entire Eastern Nagaland. It added that a separate BSL-3 lab be setup at the earliest in the Eastern Nagaland.
