EC calls for special summary revision of electoral rolls

KOHIMA, JULY 6 (MExN): The Election Commission of India has issued order for special summary revision of electoral rolls with January 1, 2006 as the qualifying date, according to a notification of Deputy Commissioner Kohima.

The schedule for the revisions is as follows: 

1. Publication of Draft Roll- August 20, 2006, 

2. Period of filing of claims and objection- August 7, 2006 to September 18, 2006, 

3. Special campaign for receiving claims and objections at all designated locations- September 5 and the 6th, 2006, 

4. Disposal of claims, objection and preparing and  printing of supplements of addition, deletion and correction by-October 15, 2006 and Final publication of Electoral Rolls-October 25, 2006.

The notification said that any bona fide citizen of India who have been qualified for enrollment in the electoral rolls may lodge his or her claims or objection in prescribe form within the specified period.

The notification also further said that form 6, 7, 8A and 8 for inclusion of names, objection to inclusion of names, transposition and correction to particulars of entries will be available in all designated locations during the period for filing of claims and objection.

Hence, the public has been requested to obtain the said form from the appointed officials. Duly filled forms should be handed over to the designated officer or to the Deputy Commissioner office during office hours.

It said that the application of the under-aged or a person who is eligible under the law in the electoral will be summarily rejected by the competent authority. 

In case of the applicants above 20 years of age, applying for the first time for enrollment, the circumstances because of which they have not sought enrollment earlier, should be ascertained and the fact should be briefly recorded on form-6, and has appealed to all concern to co-operate with the revision officials in order to have clean and accurate electoral rolls for Kohima district, it was informed.
