Eco blockade at Namtola- Tizit road lifted ‘conditionally’

Dimapur, August 8 (MExN): A blockade imposed on the Namtola-Tizit road by a transporters union at Sonari, Charaideo district, Assam was lifted on August 7. An official source from Mon informed that the blockade was lifted “conditionally” after the Charaideo district administration intervened. The blockade was imposed on August 2 by the Sonari Truck Owners Union. The ADC Mon when contacted informed that the blockade was lifted conditionally till August 20. As per the ADC, the union enforced the blockade protesting alleged incidents of kidnapping, extortion and assault on transporters on the Nagaland side. The ADC informed that one suspect linked to the alleged criminal incidents was arrested by police and they were on the lookout for other accomplices. Stating that “action taken” report was relayed to the Charaideo administration, the ADC expressed hope that if no untoward incidents happen in the intervening period, the blockade would be called off completely. The blockade had cut off the only road link to Mon district via Assam putting a strain on essential supplies.
