EDTC cautions traders against overpricing, sale of expired goods

Dimapur, June 29 (MExN): The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has directed all business establishments within its jurisdiction not to sell goods above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) or stock and sell expired products, warning of strict legal action against violators.

In a press release, the Rate Control and Quality Maintenance wing of the EDTC asked all shopkeepers, traders, wholesalers, retailers and other business establishments to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the law relating to pricing and product expiry.

The council said regular inspections would be carried out across the EDTC jurisdiction to monitor compliance.

It warned that any individual or business establishment found charging above the MRP or selling expired items would face strict legal action, including the imposition of penalties and fines.

The EDTC appealed to all business establishments to cooperate in protecting consumer rights and maintaining fair trade practices in the interest of the general public.
