‘Education is transformer of life’

Aiponger Students’ Union celebrates golden jubilee

Shamator, January 20 (DIPR): The golden jubilee celebration of Aiponger Akherü Arihako (Aiponger Students’ Union) was held on January 17 and 18 2014 at Aiponger Village Church with Parliamentary Secretary for CAWD, R Tohanba, gracing the inaugural function as chief guest.

Stressing on the importance of education, the chief guest in his address said education is a “Transformer of life, an agent of change and modernity.” Tohanba said that it is only through education that the Eastern Nagas can come at par and hope to compete with other tribes and societies. He advised the students that they should not involve or depend too much on politics to influence their careers or future; rather students should choose to chart their own destiny and careers through hard work and dedication.

Stating that Aiponger is a historic and pioneer village among the Yimchungrü villages in the field of education, Tohanba said P. Hopung (A centenarian who also attended the AAA Jubilee celebration) of Aiponger village was one of the first educated men among the Yimchungrüs. Hopung first attended school at government primary school, Baimho, in Zunheboto district way back in 1937.

The Parliamentary Secretary also said that as a students’ organization, AAA should take initiatives to bring positive changes and transformation in the village.
T. Keozhih Yimchunger, Personal Secretary to Chairman, Nagaland Bio-Resource Mission and MLA, Toyang Chang, also exhorted the gathering. Neighbouring Huker Students’ Union and students from Aghunato presented special numbers. Among others, EAC Shamator, Athsangla and BDO Chessore, S. Lakiumong and host of invitees from other villages also attended the Jubilee conference.
