Effort to put focus on sanitation in Chumu

Dimapur, March 21 (MExN): An IEC workshop organized by PHED Chumukedima sub-division and sponsored by Water and Sanitation Support Organization (WSSO) was held for Water & Sanitation (WATSAN) Committee members and village council members on March 19 at Town Hall, Chumukedima.  

The main objective of the workshop was to accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and put focus on sanitation under the Swachh Bharat Mission that aims to achieve Clean India by October 2, 2019, stated a press release from SDO (PHED) Chumukedima, Er. Ichirang Zeliang. In rural areas, it will mean improving the levels of cleanliness though Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities and making villages Open Defecation Free (ODF) and clean, it added.  

Er. Ichirang at the workshop laid emphasis on the goal of Swachh Bharat Mission which requires adequate efforts of community to improve environmental sanitation including management of solid and liquid wastes at household as well as community levels through sustainable methods and social mobilization. He briefed on the importance of toilet and highlighted the profound impact of the sanitation crisis in the society. He further encouraged the participants to actively get involved in the mission to achieve an ODF village as well as make Dimapur an ODF district in 2018.  

The workshop was also attended by Thezavizo Nakhro, EAC Chumukedima as special guest. He expressed gratitude to participants for showing concern towards the noble mission of making an ODF district and encouraged the village authority to take more proactive part in an effort to achieve a clean India and make ODF Dimapur district. The workshop was attended by village council members and WATSAN Committee members from villages under Chumukedima block.
