Eight apprehended for extortion, robbery, drugs

DIMAPUR, JULY 29 (MExN): Six persons were arrested by the police in connection with separate cases of crime in the past few days by the police. According to a press release from the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur the transgressions were relating to possession of arms, extortion, robbery and drug trafficking.
On Friday, July 29 one person was arrested from the Railway station area for possessing a .22 calibre pistol with nine rounds and a magazine. The arrested was identified as one Kakivi Swu alias Khekivi Swu (21 years). The release stated that Swu was nabbed by a combined team of 15th NAP (Mahila IR) patrol party and DEF personnel following a chase. According to the release the arrested admitted to police, “that he was directed by one Atoshe, SS Deputy Director of NSCN (Khole) to extort from the business establishments in the town. On further investigation, it was revealed by the accused that he was recently released from jail in connection with an earlier case of extortion which was registered in Medziphema Police Station.” He was booked under the Arms Act and for attempt to commit extortion.
In an unrelated incident four robbers were arrested from Railway Bazaar area for waylaying and robbing three civilians on the evening of July 28. They were identified as Veka Achumi (28 years), Tiasangba Longkumer (18 years), Benjamin Zhimomi (23 years) and Tovika Sangtam.
The released stated that the four were arrested by Sub-Urban Police station personnel following a complaint lodged by three persons who were robbed of their mobile phones, cash, bank pass book and identity cards at around 8:00 pm from the railway station area. Two of the robbers were arrested the same evening while the other two were arrested based on their revelation to the police. The stolen items were also recovered while the four were forwarded to judicial custody.

One held for drugs
Personnel from West Police station seized a huge consignment of restricted drug, Spasmo Proxyvon totalling 82, 944 capsules in number on July 25 last. The drugs were found in the possession of one Siraj Khan from the DC Court area. The arrested is from Imphal Manipur. According to the release from the Additional SP, Khan was trying to smuggle the drugs to Imphal from Dimapur with assistance from two of his friends who were identified as one Sentinangba and a Shanti Singh. The two were said to have been told by Khan that the boxes which carried the drugs contained “some articles belonging to him.” A case was registered against all three while investigation is on, the release said.
