Dimapur, July 30 (MExN): Dimapur Police have arrested eight people on charges of extortion.
On July 17, Dimapur Police apprehended an 18-year-old NSCN (IM) cadre while collecting tax from the truck drivers at Singrijan road, Selouphe Junction Bazar. Cash Rs 2000 has been seized/recovered from his possession, informed a press release from Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police/PRO, which added that a case has been registered at Diphupar Police Station and investigation is on.
The police also apprehended one person identified as Khanito (28), member of NSCN (IM) from Army Supply Road, Dimapur for allegedly extorting money on July 20. A cash of Rs. 7880 was seized/recovered from his possession and a case has been registered at SBN PS, it added.
On July 21 around 2:30 am, Dimapur Police apprehended one person, Khekivi Aye (31), Sectional Officer of FGN while demanding money from Nagaland Sofa Centre located at Church Road, Dimapur, the PRO informed. In this connection, a case has been registered in East PS and investigation is on.
Dimapur Police also apprehended one Shikavi Yepthomi (32) while demanding money from the truck drivers in the name of NNC (N/A) on July 23. A case has been registered in DPR PS and investigation is on, it was informed.
Further on July 24, two persons identified as Izheto Achumi (34), Khapur of NSCN (IM) and Vinoka Achumi (27) were apprehended while demanding money from the shops at Blue Hill area, Dimapur, it was informed. .22 pistol along with magazine and four live rounds, eight SP capsules, and Rs 650 in cash were seized from their possession, the release said. In this connection, a case has been registered in East PS.
Dimapur Police also apprehended two persons, Lovika Ayemi @ Kito (27) and Nona Sumi (33), while extorting money from business communities at MP Road, Dimapur on July 25. Following items were seized from them – .22 pistol with magazine and ammunitions, extortion slips and demand notes of NSCN (K), cash Rs. 22,130, 19 SP capsules, four Nitrogen tablets, one gram of suspected brown sugar, one mobile phone. In this connection, a case has been registered at East Police Station for further investigation.
One held for illegal gambling
One person identified as Tovika (20) was arrested for illegal gambling in public place at Blue Hill Station area, Dimapur on July 19. A case has been registered at East PS and investigation is on.
Auto theft
Two persons were arrested by Dimapur Police while trying to sell one autorickshaw without the knowledge of the owner on July 16. They have been identified as Abdul Nur (28) and Manoj Kumar (28). In this connection, a case has been registered at East PS and investigation is on.
Two arrested with liquor
One Mahindra Scorpio vehicle, silver colour, bearing Reg NO. NL031276 was seized with 1440 bottles of various brands of IMFL on July 17. In this connection, two persons identified as Neikhoto (28) and Malo (22) were arrested and a case registered at Chumukedima PS. With this latest arrest, a total of 55 cases have been registered under NLTP Act by the Dimapur law enforcement agency for the period January-July 2018, the release said. In total, 96,289 bottles of various brands of IMFL were recovered and six women and 72 men were arrested and forwarded to judicial custody, the release informed.
