The Elder Line Nagaland (National Helpline for Senior Citizens) today commemorated its 2nd anniversary formation in Nagaland.
Gracing the programme held at Elder Line Office in Kohima, MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso released the magazine entitled “Footprint.” Dr Rhutso called upon the youngsters of today’s generation to establish a strong system in whichever possible ways to help the elderly people.
“Helping the elderly people and establishing a proper helpline is helping yourself and securing your future, because you are also marching towards that stage,” he added.
In many places, the elderly people were not looked after properly, but here in the case of Nagaland, we are very fortunate to be the Nagas, because it is the system of Nagas society that the elderly people are taken care of and looked after by their children and they don’t face many problems, he said.
“We the Nagas try to help the elderly through khel, clans and villages, that is why the problem and complaint of elderly is very less in Nagaland,” he said.
As an representative of Kohima town AC, he said he will do his best to help the elderly people in Kohima.
He was optimistic to establish a centre for the elderly where they can come and have a cup of tea and discuss, shares stories together.
He assured to give his best and pursue with the government to help the elderly people in Nagaland.
Dr I Pihoto Khala, vice president, senior citizens association Nagaland also spoke at the programme.
Earlier, Neithonuo Liegise, programme manager, Elderline Nagaland chaired the programme.
It may be mentioned that Good Samaritan Women Society Kohima is looking after the “ELDER LINE” National Helpline for senior citizens and one call at “call toll-free number 14567.
