Election results are ‘highly questionable’

DIMAPUR, MARCH 2 (MExN): In a joint meeting at Kohima, non-NPF candidates from Phek district today asserted that the recently concluded election was “a farce” and that the results were “highly questionable.” It added that the members have decided to leave no stone unturned in order to “bring justice for electoral reforms.”

The joint meeting was held to review the just concluded election and post-election scenario in the district and was attended by Vaprumo Demo, Chito Nyusou, Vezokho Chotso, Kevechutso, Vivolie Kezo, Vekho Swuro, K Therie, Z Lohe, K Hoshi, Thenucho and Vetetso Lasuh.

In a joined statement issued by the non-NPF candidates, they observed that the “culture of intimidation, physical assault and mental torture and displacing from villages of supporters of other candidates by NPF workers particularly in 17th Chizami A/C, 19th Phek A/C and 20th Meluri A/C are alien to Chakhesang and Pochury cultures.”

The candidates stated that “these inhuman and barbaric practices were never a part of elections prior to 2008. The statement further alleged that “supporters of the elected candidates” continue to cause destruction to the properties of non NPF supporters and added that this would have “wide ramifications to the existence” of people. The candidates have therefore appealed to the general public to condemn such acts of violence and to “stand united against such unethical culture.”

They further condemned the February 26 bomb blast which took place within the perimeter of the DC, Phek’s office. It said that the culprits responsible for the blast have undermined the integrity of the district.
