Wokha, February 11 (MExN): The Janata Dal (United) 37 Tyui Assembly Constituency has filed a police complaint appealing to the law enforcement agency to speedily act upon incidents of violence reportedly perpetrated on supporters of the JDU in the constituency.
In the complaint, a copy of which was issued to the media on Saturday, the JDU 37 Tyui AC President, N Zumchio Lotha listed three incidents that occurred in the constituency. In the first instance, a farmhouse at Koio village was razed by fire by unknown persons; however, “two JDU supporters from Koio village were arbitrarily taken into custody on unfounded case of suspicion causing much tension and harassment, mental and physical, to the two individuals, their family members and the wider circle of JDU party supporters.”
In another incident on the same day, it claimed that some individuals and “their cohorts threatened and vandalized the residence of two JDU supporters at Koio village which has caused irreparable damage, in terms of trauma experienced, to the families concerned,” while in another incident a “a JDU supporter namely, Khocherao Tungoe, of New Changsu village was grievously injured causing him to be hospitalised.”
In this connection, the party stated that the three incidents happening within the same day “looks suspicious enough and seems intended to wrongly frame, and at the same time, instill fear psychosis amongst JDU supporters of 37 Tyui A/C which is not only against the rule of law but also against the norm of democratic society where every individual is, by law, entitled to exercise his/her franchise without coercion, fear or favour.” As such, it appealed to the authorities to conduct speedy investigation and ensure that the rule of law is established by booking the perpetrators, whoever they might be, at the earliest.
