KOHIMA (MExN): The people of Pangti village under Wokha district suffered a major loss when a large tract of paddy field in the village was damaged by elephants earlier this month. Sources told The Morung Express that about 38 elephants came to Pangti village in four groups and ravaged around 15 paddy fields and other plantation areas in the village.
Pangti village is located around 40 far from Wokha Town. The extent of loss is worth around Rs. 3-4 lakh. This is the fourth time that such incident had occurred in the village.
Last year one person was killed while other 7 injured when the elephant attacked the villagers. It is learnt that the labourers were insecure to work along the ongoing road construction under PMGSY between Doyang and Pangti. Free movement of the public has also been affected on this route.
The forest department has employed about four villagers to survey the movement of elephants in and around the village.
