Elimination of Violence against Women programme held at Peren

Peren, December 8 (DIPR): As part of the fortnight observation on Elimination of Violence against Women, a programme was held at Peren under the aegis of Zeliangrong Mipui Organization, sponsored by the Nagaland State Commission for Women on December 6 at Peren Town Women Welfare Hall, Peren.  

President, ZMO, Apeuna Iheilung who was the resource person on the day dwelt on the topic ‘Zero Tolerance for Gender Based Violence in Education’. She emphasized that, the law of the land protects every girl for availing equality of education. It is enshrined in the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), she added.  

Touching upon domestic violence, Apeuna Iheilung ruled that ignorance has allowed gender discrimination to go on in our society. She impressed the gathering that there is equality in every sphere of life before the law and called upon the people to end any type of discrimination and violence against the weaker vessels. Women are protected under the provision of Protection of Women and Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and Rules, 2006, where the aggrieved person can seek redressed, she further added.  

The programme was chaired by Advisor, ZMO, Kiheiyile. Attendants also participated in group discussion and interaction.
