Wokha, June 14 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao has notified that June 16, 2026, the polling day for Ward No. 8 (Tsumang B), has been declared a paid holiday for employees registered as electors in the ward to enable them to exercise their franchise.
The notification, issued in pursuance of the Nagaland Home Department's directive, applies to all employees enrolled as electors in Ward No. 8 (Tsumang B), including those who ordinarily reside or work outside the ward.
It further stated that, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, June 16 has also been declared a paid holiday for employees of banks and financial institutions in Nagaland who are registered as electors in the ward.
The notification added that, under Section 10 of the Nagaland Shops and Establishments Act, 1982, all shops and commercial establishments in the ward owned, managed or run by persons registered as electors in Ward No. 8 (Tsumang B) will remain closed during polling hours to enable them to vote.
In the event of a repoll, the day fixed by the State Election Commission will also be observed as a public holiday for the affected electors, it stated.
However, the provisions will not apply to electors whose absence from duty may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which they are engaged, the notification added.
