Encroachment plagues Kiphire District Hospital

District Administration initiates to resolve complaints lodged by medical department

The Deputy Commissioner and District Health Society, chairman, Kiphire Kesonyu Yhome (IAS) today held a co-ordination meeting with all the land owners of District Hospital at the official chamber of Medical Superintendent Kiphire which was attended by the District Administration, Superintendent of Police and land owners.

Addressing the meeting the Deputy Commissioner disclosed that many complain regarding land has been lodge to the District Administration by the department. He called upon the land owners and the gathering to use the platform to find a solution suitable for all sections. He said that the meeting has been initiated, “not to give final judgment or settlement but to listen to you, your stand and your position so that we will try to find a way out to solve the issue.”

After listening to the land owners the DC said, “We have heard your voice” and assured “to study the matter seriously and see as to what we can do from our level. We will be writing to the government and acting according to the directive of the government.” He also asked the gathering not to take otherwise if the administration acts as per the directive of the government.

Reading out the names of eleven land owners who were compensated in the year 1977 @ Rs 2000 per acre the DC said that government has given Rs 50,000 in the year 1977 for 25 acre of land as per sketch map for 25 bedded hospital. However, today it has reduces only to around 5 acres. The DC also stated that the medical department has gone to the court for this land issue few years back and even now, the department may go to the court apart from the directive of the government since the record is clear. 

Sharing his concern, Dr Kibang, DIO who chaired the programme expressed his concern that without land there can be no development, added, “If Hospital is developed, the citizens of Kiphire will be the beneficiary”, and therefore asked the gathering to extend maximum co-operation to solve the land issue. He also expresses gratitude to the DC for his concern in taking up the land issue of medical department for the welfare of Kiphire citizens.

Some of the land owners who were present at the meeting said that the department has promise to put boundary around the medial land few years back but so far nothing has been done. They stated that they are not going to give our land and added, “It is also the fault of government as they have given permit to settle in the land.”
