Dimapur: In order to enhance care and support for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs), Chavara Home, a community care centre in collaboration with Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) conducted a one day home based care training on March 1 at Chavara Home, Naharbari here. All together fifty people from in and around Dimapur attended the training.
A press release issued by Sr. Merin stated that the main objective of the programme was to strengthen the PLWHAs and their family members in regard to care and treatment at home so as to enhance a healthy and positive living of PLWHAs.
The first session on ongoing management of infection was taken by Sr. Florence & Sr. Servia. It was a participatory training, hence a lot of interaction between the participants and resource persons. There was a question hour about management of diseases and how to solve the problems of life, the note said. The participants also shared the problems and challenges of PLWHAs and suggested solutions to solve their problems.
The second session was taken by Rev. Fr. Chacko, the previous director of Shalom Rehabilitation Centre, Chumukedima on "Positive Living & Prevention". The resource person said first of all people living with HIV (PLHIV) need to accept oneself and understand it. “That means one needs to change our mindset and behaviour so that people will accept them,” he asserted. “Hence, stigma & discrimination will reduce in our society and any PLHIV can live positively and prevention will take place automatically.” He also said positive prevention is a must among PLHIV.
Further, sharing that good and bad things happen in life, Rev. Fr. Chacko stressed that “if we look only at the negative side it is difficult to cope up with life’s situations.” He stated that if one has positive attitude one can win over life. He also inspired the participants to think positively by showing examples of the lives of great people.
The release said that the participants were very happy. They acknowledged that the day was an enriching one because they could learn many things and could correct their misunderstandings. They were also encouraged to look at their lives positively, it added.
