DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 7 (MExN): The six tribes from Eastern Nagaland namely Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam and Yimchunger under the aegis of Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) on Thursday said it totally oppose the “BJP-sponsored controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.”
In an open letter addressed to the President of India and the Government of Nagaland, media cell ENPO has urged upon the President to take into account the desire and wishes of the people.
It asserted that the customary practices of the Nagas as enshrined in Article 371 (A) of the Indian Constitution do not give citizenship to anybody basing on any religion.
Stating that the people of Eastern Nagaland shall stand tooth and nail to protect the legitimate rights of the Nagas, the ENPO has urged the Government of India to take cognizance of the voices of the people. The ENPO has also urged and reminded the Nagaland Government to convene a special assembly session before it is too late, to review and pass assembly resolution as per the provision under Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution, which should totally oppose the bill in order to avoid any adverse repercussion upon its people in the near future.
