The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF), which began its indefinite agitation on October 23 outside the Department of School Education (DoSE) called off the stir after an assurance from the State Government to honour its demand.

The Federation was demanding the DoSE to re-advertise Graduate Teachers (Maths & Science) for full 53 vacant posts available for the backward tribes, after it had issued an advertisement only for 36 posts.

A circular from the Principal Secretary, Government of Nagaland FP Solo to the ENSF President informed that the Department has decided to “honour the decision of the Cabinet notification dated January 1, 2009, while filling up the vacant posts.”

The notification stated that the “Selection of candidates for all posts in the districts inhabited by the six tribes shall be filled up only by members of the tribe belonging to these districts. No post shall be transferred out of the districts along with the incumbent.”

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary also requested the ENSF to give an assurance that it “will not allow the transfer of teachers from Eastern Nagaland areas to other districts based on the Notification dated 09.01.2009.”
