
Dimapur, August 17 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) taking note of the series of the “purported assault on North Eastern students studying outside the State by some mis-informed community” has appealed to the State Government to immediately intervene to contain the situation and to safeguard the students studying in different universities and institutions across different parts of the country and cities especially in Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad etc.
ENSF General Secretary, Changsang Soted in a press statement said that the Federation strongly condemns the “unwarranted attack on innocent North East students in general and the Naga students in particular as it would generate great ramifications on the peaceful co-existence and cordial relations amongst the different communities.”
“The viral rumour of unwanted assault is assuming a different turn and therefore the State Government should urgently act and caution all its citizens before the matter bombards and escalates,” ENSF stated while appealing the Government to seriously address the situation in consultation with the rest of the counterpart state governments of the North East so that the students do not compromise their career nor be victimized for no fault of theirs.
The ENSF also apprehends that the ethnic violence might spread to other parts of the country or other cities and hence prior arrangement of security or awareness should be spread amongst the Naga students outside the State. The Federation seeks the State government’s commitment to assist the aggrieved Naga students outside the State as a measure to check its effect back home.
The ENSF also appeals to all the likeminded citizens of the State, regardless of the religion or racial affinities to condemn such unruly crimes upon the student community and voice out jointly so as to maintain the decorum of peace and tranquility in the State. The Federation also appeals to all student of the State not to retaliate or create situations, disturbing the harmony and peace in the State, without ascertaining the facts and figures. All the non-Nagas of the State are also informed to be aware of the volatile situation across the Nation and to report to the responsible authority(s) incase of any eventuality(s).
The Federation also added that it would be monitoring the daily updates of situation arising out of this issue and assures fullest co-operation to the State Government, the Law enforcing agency(s) of the State and any citizens of the State in this connection, while condemning the unjustified violence.
