ENSF stir on quota demand

Dimapur, Sept  7 (MExN): The second phase agitation of the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation is set to be launched September 12 “in different forms” till the government accedes to the demand for 25% job reservation. All federating unit presidents and their executive councils are informed to be stationed in their respective unit headquarters.

The ENSF has decided to resume its agitation demanding the said quota “exclusively” for six tribes (Konyak, Chang, Sangtam, Yimchunger, Khiamniunngan and Phom). The federation has also decided to shut down all government establishments, offices, in the four districts and sub-divisions from September 12. An ENSF executive note informed that medical, security forces, educational and commercial establishments will no be affected.

The ENSF also informed that the state government had requested a two-month period “with commitment to address” the demand. The two months have expired September 4. The ENSF waited for several days even after the expiry of the period, on request from the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union, Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ organization and the ‘ENGOA.’ However the state government failed to do the needful, it stated maintaining that the government was negligent and “turning the deaf ears” to the demand.
