ENSUD appeals to DNSU

DIMAPUR, MAY 16 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students Union Dimapur (ENSUD) has appealed against the Dimapur Naga Students Union (DNSU) collecting fees from students from Eastern Nagaland, (i.e. Konyak, Phom, Sangtam, Chang, Khiamniungan and Yimchunger) in educational institutes within the latter’s jurisdiction. The DNSU had resolved to collect student statistics/census from all government and private institutes within its jurisdiction along with a census fee of Rs 1 per head.

Stating that students from Eastern Nagaland “are not members of either DNSU or NSF,” the ENSUD requested school and college authorities in Dimapur “not to entertain” collection of the said fees from the concerned students.  A press note from the ENSUD President, P Honko Luklem and General Secretary, Setsipa Sangtam further requested the schools and colleges to maintain a separate record/statistic of students from eastern Nagaland within their respective institutions.

The ENSUD has also written to the DNSU President stating that the six tribal units (Konyak, Phom, Sangtam, Chang, Khiamniungan and Yimchunger) “had detached from the DNSU in the year 2008.” “The Eastern Students are not members of the DNSU/NSF and the collection of membership fee from Eastern students is not justified,” stated the ENSUD. As such, it called upon the DNSU to review its resolution and refund the amount collected from students from eastern Nagaland through their respective schools and colleges.
