The official told The Morung Express that the people stranded here have started applying for ‘Fitness Certificate’ from the District Surveillance Unit (for COVID-19) since May 2.

“We have already issued over 500 certificates since yesterday (May 2) and many more have applied today,” the official said. He added that Health teams were sent to the government relief camps to facilitate smooth passage of those wishing to go to Assam. “Two teams have been sent to Chümoukedima and one each to the State Stadium, Youth Hostel, and to the Newfield and Dillai inter-state checkposts.”

At the other side of the inter-state border, the Karbi Anglong Administration was arranging transport to take back the people.

Further, many more people, mostly those from UP and Bihar, have also started applying for the Fitness Certificate. “They are mostly daily wage earners from UP and Bihar. They want to go back home because they are not earning anything,” the official said.

The Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Anoop Khinchi said that the district administration is facilitating to enable the stranded to cross over into Assam. He added that his office is also issuing an “Administrative Order” alongwith the Fitness Certificate issued by the district health authority.
