DIMAPUR, MAY 6 (MExN): Recently appointed chairman of Nagaland Hotels Limited (NHL), Er. Picto Shohe on Monday talked about his vision to build few star hotels in Kohima and Dimapur and also constructing standard hotels in district headquarters.
Speaking at an introductory meeting with officials of NHL at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, Er. Picto said he also planned to request the state government to take over tourist lodges and management of Nagaland Houses in order to accommodate the excess staff and bail out the “sick industry.” He said every effort would be made to explore in the field of modern technologies to lead NHL into flying colours such as information technology by way of delivering Naga hospitality and eco friendly management of hotels.
He sent out a message to the youth that the main objective of NHL is to generate employment even in the remotest areas and look out to train youths in hospitality services and hotel management. Towards this effort, Er. Picto said that setting up of such institutions could also be contemplated in the near future.
He said that the government aimed to expand the activities of NHL by roping in sister departments like tourism, handloom & handicrafts, art & culture and food processing units thereby creating its own brand name in a professional manner in line with chain hotels.
Stating that the government has spent a lot of resources in tourism sector, Er. Picto asserted that it was the right opportunity to project NHL as one of the indispensable vehicles to achieve its aims and objectives. He said NHL was a part and parcel of tourism sector as tourism industry alone cannot sustain unless there are accredited hotels in all corners of the state.
“Today as I take over this responsibility, it is my desire to serve, promote and guide NHL to a higher ground – not to bring liability to the family,” Er. Picto affirmed.
Managing Director of NHL Bendang Longkumer apprised the chairman NHL that the resources generated from Hotel Saramati has become meagre owing to the deplorable condition of Hotel. What was once the pride of the state government has now become deplorable as no major renovation has been done since the Hotel was constructed, he said. The MD also said that the Hotel has a total of 75 staff which was excess. He expressed the hope that the government would be able to restore the old glory of the Hotel with the help and guidance of the new chairman NHL.
