Dimapur, August 16 (MExN): The Eralibill village Council (EVC) has condemned the ‘hit-and-run’ incident that occurred on August 9 where a permanent and bonafide resident the village Leya Engtipi Sangma was killed on the spot and her brother, grievously injured, allegedly by one unregistered dumper truck.

“We are still in a state of deep shock and sadness of how an innocent soul of just 24 years was mercilessly dragged to death by the carelessness of that arrogant driver,” stated a press release from EVC Chairman N Hokito Tessicca. “It is a gross negligence and overlooking of the safety measures lay down by the district traffic police and concerned authorities.”

In this connection, the council appealed the police authority to investigate the matter properly and give the culprit a befitting punishment as per the law of the land.

“We also strongly appeal that no bail should be granted to the accused, thereby giving justice to the family,” it said.

The EVC further expressed condolences to the bereaved family members and assured that the council along with all the citizens is standing strong with the family in these hard times and prayed that the Lord almighty give them strength to bear this irreparable loss.
