In celebration of International Dance day, observed annually on April 29, a three day essence master-class/ dance workshop-cum-dance competition kicked off at Trionix dance studio, in Signal Basti, Dimapur on April 27.

Renowned choreographer and professional dancer from Chennai, Nimble Funk was invited as the instructor for the workshop and will also be the judge for the dance competition which will be held on the final day.

“Anybody can dance but if you have the right knowledge then nobody can take that away from you. So once you’re strong in mind your body will know what to do,” he shared to the dance enthusiasts.

Speaking with The Morung Express, Theja Meru, Advisor, TaFMA, who was invited the guest of honour for the opening day, said that the department decided to host a dance event in Dimapur after several requests from the public. “We are doing these initiatives to help our young people to learn and move on to achieve their dreams of joining the larger dance industry.” He further revealed that these type of events fall under the category of TaFMA’s Excel programme. “We focus on organising a lot of workshops such as these for music production, song writing and dancing,” he said.

Lam Grace, Director of Dance Fiesta, responsible for managing the event noted that the entire workshop is free of cost for the participants. “We got a lot of response from people even outside the state, but due to the limited space inside the studio, we could only accept around 60-70 participant,” she shared.

She added that, “As a dance community, we lack the basic skills and foundations so I believe that he (Nimble Funk) will provide us the right culture, theory and lessons which would help us grow.”

The entire event is sponsored by Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) with a host of other event partners.
