Essentiality and Conscience – Need for a balancing act

The need for spending quality time with family through outings on Sundays in Kohima have been a matter of concern to me.Having almost run out of options to visit places in Kohima and topping up with the improved road condition of NH-29, we decided to venture out towards Dimapur after Church Service recently.

Once on road, it brought us to mind, the once popular topic of Debate “To open or not to open shops on Sundays. With almost all the shops closed, things seemed lifeless, except for the vehicles that crossed our path. It was snack time and we were still on the Highway, invited occasionally by closed Hotels and Dhabas. This incident also made me appreciate better, the inconveniences that would have been invariably faced bytravellers (Especially Tourists) on Sundays and by those who don’t get off days on Saturdays in Nagaland.

Our saving grace came in the form of “the food street” a food joint at Piphema Old. The shop opens at 10 AM and closes at 9 PM and on Sundays, it opens at 1 PM. Amenities such as decent washroom, comfortable seating and spacious parking area were value additions.

We were pleasantly surprised to find out the variety of food available under one roof. Of all the food brands available such as Costa Coffee, KFC, Pizza Hut, Dil Se Chai, thefood chain “VAANGO” specializing in South Indian food was a special find for us. We relished on Dosa, Idli and Vaada with coffee. It was served fresh with a taste of originality. The Coffee needed a bit more of a vigor though. We decided on trying out the remaining items on our next visit. ‘Dil Se Chai’ Tea served in Matkas was an attraction. However, we wondered if it would have tasted better, had it been served freshly prepared and hot.

On our way back home, what struck my mind was; if authorities in Kohima following suit with that of Dimapur on opening of shops on Sundays after 12 Noon would be a move well taken.
