ESSU demands completion of schools in Aghunato

Aghunato, July 5 (MExN):  The Eastern Sumi Students' Union (ESSU) has issued an ultimatum to the Department of School Education to take immediate steps to complete the construction of GMS Ngozubo, GMS Viyilho, GMS Shevishe and GMS Kelto under SDEO Aghunato.

These school building projects were sanctioned, funded and implemented under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) during the years between 2010-2013. The sanctioned funds of these school buildings have reportedly been withdrawn and utilized but the works are all left incomplete and abandoned, the ESSU alleged.

According to the ESSU, it had earlier issued a press release regarding the abandoned school buildings’ construction. While the press release was issued on June 26, the ESSU said it was still waiting for some logical response from the concerned department considering the gravity of the issue.

The union said that it has been urging the concerned department to proceed with the uncompleted construction even before the press release and after. “However, to our utter dismay, there was a complete inaction on the part of the concerned department,” the union stated.

It expressed dismay at the implementing agency (SSA), the concerned department and the concerned officials/personnel “who undertook the projects and hampered the development activities rendering these institutes functionless for nearly a decade, thereby depriving education to many children belonging to below poverty line families.”

The union has demanded stringent action against those erring officials/personals of the implementing agency involved in the case.

In its letter to the Principal Director, School Education, the ESSU sought immediate intervention for the neglected educational projects to be completed without delay and the guilty punished according to the provision of the law.

In case of failure to see immediate steps being taken up to resolve this issue, the ESSU warned that it “will be compelled to take its own course of action.”
