
DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 11 (MExN): The Eastern Sumi Students' Union (ESSU) observed the 68th anniversary of the 1st Indo-Indo-Naga battle at Hoshepu town. The programme was attended by Aghunato Area Kukami Hoho, Aghunato Area Sumi Totomi Hoho, leaders from different fields and concern citizens of Aghunato area.
Imeka Awomi, SKK representative to NSF chaired the programme. He began the programme with a minute of silence in remembrance of the martyrs.
Ghokiho Zhimom, President, Aghunato Area Kukami Hoho was the special guest. He mentioned the significance of the day and stressed upon the roles of the students' organizations. He said the 1st Indo-Naga battle was not just an event for the Hoshepu area or people from Aghunato but it is an event for the Nagas towards the freedom movement.
Zhimomi narrated the events and how he escaped from the “Indian invasion” on the afternoon of September 10. He said “we must keep proclaiming and tell the stories about the battle to younger generations as we've already lost many of the people who participated and lived through the battle.” He called on to the other organizations to actively participate in keeping the history alive.
Zhekuto Zhimomi, GB highlighted the history of the 1st Indo-Naga battle, 1955. Invocation was done by Kaito Achumi, Pastor, Khewoto Baptist Church. Greetings were delivered by Ghuvika Yeptho, President, Eastern Sumi Students' Union, who mentioned that it was a significant event in the turning point of the Naga freedom movement. He said “we have history and it's our responsibility to keep the history alive.”
Vihuli Yeptho, President, Aghunato Area Sumi Totomi Hoho, in her greetings appreciated the initiative of ESSU to keep history alive and encouraged the frontal organizations to continue their efforts towards keeping it alive. Benediction was done by Lovito Rochill, Pastor, Hoshepu Baptist Church.
