Acting President of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD), Etsungmomo Kikon and Holuto Aye have been selected as the Council’s new President and Vice President (admin) respectively for the tenure 2020-25.

Convenor of the Search Committee for nomination/appointment of vacant post of NCD President, K Francis Zeliang, made the announcement at the programme for installation of the President and Vice President (Admin) held at NCD conference hall on Saturday.

Besides the Convenor, other members of the Search Committee earlier constituted by NCD included LK Peter Anal, LL Buming Khiamniungan, Hotoshe Sumi and L Ponghok Phom (Joint Secretary and ex-officio member).

The new NCD president in his address admitted that in the recent past, Naga Council had faced numerous challenges and issues including litigation challenging the composition of NCD office bearers, which hampered smooth functioning of the office for the past one year. Kikon said this had created a bad precedence and damaged the integrity of NCD which had remained intact so far since its inception in 1949.

However, at the crucial moment, Kikon (former chairman Lotha Hoho Dimapur) said due to wise intervention and initiative of the Ao Senso Telonjem Dimapur (ASTD) under the leadership of Meren Longchar, the court case was withdrawn without any condition thereby paving the way for the citizens of Dimapur.

“The NCD also express appreciation to ASTD for acknowledging and honouring the NCD resolutions by sending two new councilors, whereas some tribal bodies are yet to respond to the NCD directives even after two months of peaceful closure of the case,” the NCD President said.

Asserting that NCD is a non-political organization, Kikon further appealed to all the councilors and tribal leaders not to influence NCD with any political interference nor allow external forces to destroy the fabric of unity among the Nagas but to jointly preserve the “72-year-old earned sanctity of Naga Council Dimapur.”

President, ASTD, Meren Longchar, also briefed the members on steps taken by ASTD to bring about peaceful closure of the NCD imbroglio.

Later, the house also discussed matters pertaining to the NCD’s 75th anniversary and construction of NCD office at Old Cemetery, Lake View Colony.
