Once again, the people of Dimapur got the opportunity to experience classical music up close and personal. A touching Vivaldi concert was held at the Covenant Hall, Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
For attendees who are not professional musicians or lovers of classical music, it was a great introduction to one of the greatest Baroque composer who ever lived, Antonio Lucia Vivaldi.
The first half of the concert was a compilation of 'Vivaldi Four Seasons' which was performed by the Hope Centre String Quintet. This Vivaldi Concerto is unmistakably his most famous work where he attempts to describe natural phenomena such as storms, wind, rain, and the sound of bird calls. The second half was a compilation of Vivaldi's 'Gloria' which is the Composer's best known Choral work. The combination was irresistible.
This brilliant ensemble of musicians belongs to the Hope Centre of Excellence, Joey Woch Music Studio, Patkai Christian College, and Nagaland Chamber Choir. Stunning performances by Soloist Ajeen Longchari, Asin Shurhozelie, Renthunglo Shitri only added to the spectacular evening of music. Credit must be given to the expertise of Conductor Pastor Razo Vazo who led the choir expertly. The musicians were clearly very talented and professional.
In an interaction with The Morung Express, minutes before the concert, the organisers expressed that last year with the 'Handel's Messiah' concert, the response from the people was overwhelming. They also expressed the view that there are not many platforms for classical music, but they are encouraged and inspired when they receive such positive reaction from the people.
"We need to work hard in the area of classical music. With proper training we can even reach the world stage," said Pastor Razo Vazo, Conductor of the concert.
Zubeno Mozhui, Director of Hope Centre for Excellence also stated that attempts are consciously being made to organise more shows so that classical music is not thought of as 'exclusive and elitist' but is more readily available for all music lovers of Nagaland.
Louise Shishak, of Patkai String Ensemble also shared her view that music is for everyone. But people should not take it for granted because there goes a lot of hard work and dedication. She also added that besides music being entertaining it is also educational. But this evening we just hope people witnessed the quality of music and be inspired to sing more, play better and perform more, she said.
