The Assam Forest Department carried out a massive eviction drive on November 28 at the Daldali Reserve Forest. The action was a continuation of an earlier eviction drive conducted on November 27 in the Lahorijan ‘Proposed Reserve Forest’ during which over 150 man-made structures were demolished. The Deputy Commissioner, Karbi Anglong district informed that on Tuesday some 500 households were evicted from within Daldali, which shares border with Nagaland’s Dimapur district. Queried on the possible presence of Nagas among the evicted, the DC replied that it was mixed. Regarding allegation that the ones evicted from the Lahorijan ‘Proposed Reserved Forest’ on November 27 were mostly from Dimapur, the DC said the evicted lot were of mixed community. The order for reserved forest was passed 30 years ago and the Assam Forest department was conducting as per the order, he said,and added that as per the Department, the evicted villages or settlements came into existence after 2011.
