Ex-gratia for victim; TMPO & YCSU submit Memorandum

DIMAPUR SEPT 16: The Government of Nagaland has granted an ex-gratia relief amounting to Rs 50,000 to the family of Peter Yimchunger who was killed by the body guards of the ADC (J) Mokokchung on the night of September 15 while traveling on a Tuensang-bound bus between Silonijan and Garambani. An amount of Rs 25,000 was also announced for the injured. The Chief Minister while expressing deep shock and anguish over the killing has ordered a one-man enquiry into the incident. He also offered his condolences the family of Lt Peter Yimchungru and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Meanwhile the Tuensang-Mon Public Organization (TMPO) and the Yimchunger College students Union (YCSU) have submitted memoranda to the State Government to initiate immediate action those involved in the killing of Peter Yimchunger and the circumstances leading to the incident. Terming the murder as “gruesome and cold-blooded” the TMPO demanded that the ADC (J), Mokokchung and his bodyguards involved in the killing be immediately terminated from service and given a befitting punishment as per the law. The organization also demanded that the next to the kin of the deceased be given an ex-gratia payment of Rs 20, 00,000 (Twenty lakhs) as well that one of the relatives of the deceased be given a Government job on grounds of compassion. It also forewarned that the dead body of the deceased would be kept at the public ground, Tuensang till the demands were fulfilled.

In a similar memorandum the Yimchunger College Students Union (YCSU) while condemning the incident also demanded that all the culprits be bought to Tuensang within 11 hours and that the matter should be taken up within 24 hours. The YCSU also demanded that the matter be taken up within the jurisdiction of Tuensang district.
